Was the War a turning point ?
General Taylor was first into Mexico after his scouts were bushwhacked at Palo Alto, and Taylor delayed de Santa Anna and the bulk of the Mexican army at Buena Vista as GEN Winfield Scott landed at Veracruz. From there it was a running fight to the gates of Mexico, D.F. My guess: Buena Vista, as de Santa Anna, unaware of the U. S. naval force westbound and down on the Gulf with an entire army aboard, marched off to shut down Taylor.
My opinion was that it might have been a turning point because my guess is that the Mexican -American War had fought through different places and might have changed those areas today or even back in 1845-1848.

General Zachary Taylor
Born a southern man in 1784, Taylor had reached his 60’s when the tensions with Mexico began to rise in the 1840's and he was sent by President Polk to the borderlands of Texas and Mexico. His mission there was to guard the land there that was being claimed by both countries, and in 1846, when the first Mexican rifle was shot, he and his troops engaged in war against Mexico. The Mexican American War ended in 1848, and in 1849 his popular role in the war earned him the favor of the American people and he was elected president of the United States. However, he died shortly after assuming office, in 1850.
